The war with Japan came to an end on 15/8/1945, but the official surrender was not signed in Singapore until 12/9/1945. Due to the large number of prisoners that were released, it took some time for the survivors of the Battalion to return to Australia.

Most of the Battalion who were in Singapore at the time of the surrender, boarded Esperance Bay for the trip to Sydney. Other members, depending on their medical condition, or their location at the end of the War, returned to Australia on other ships. Click on the links below for further details.
