In late August, 1945, Arawa sailed from Sydney with Duntroon and HMAS Hawkesbury. They called at Darwin on 4/9/1945 and arrived in Singapore on 13/9/1945. On board the ships were members of 2nd Australian POW Reception Group, 2/14 AGH, and other troops, heading to Singapore to establish reception camps for released Australian Prisoners of War.

At Singapore, the troops disembarked and Arawa was then loaded with ex-Prisoners of War. She left Singapore, with Duntroon, on 20/9/1945 and headed for Sydney, where she arrived on 8/10/45.
