A few Battalion members escaped from Singapore, and either made their way to Java, or ended up in Ceylon. They eventually made their way back to Australia on various ships.

  • Abbekerk, arrived Fremantle 5/3/1942

  • HMAS Bendigo, arrived Fremantle 8/3/1942

  • Edendale, arrived Fremantle 5/3/1942

  • HMS Pangkor, arrived Batavia

  • Stirling Castle, arrived Melbourne 28/3/1942

  • Stirling Castle, arrived Melbourne 13/8/1942

  • Thepsatri Nawa, arrived Fremantle 6/3/1942

  • Zaandam (Zaan Dam), arrived Fremantle 7/3/1942

Some of them later served with other Australian units in New Guinea, returned to Singapore in 1945 with the POW Reception Groups, or served with the BCOF in Japan after the war.
