The hospital ship, Oranje, reached Singapore on 11/9/1945. She joined another hospital ship, Manunda, which had arrived in Singapore on 10/9/1945. The medical staff on board were taken to Changi to care for the ex-prisoners, some of whom were transferred to the ships for further treatment.

Oranje left for Australia on 16/9/1945 with the most seriously ill. During the trip, NX21437 Pte. Hector James HOLDEN died of illness at sea on 18/9/1945.

The ship called at Darwin and Brisbane, and arrived in Sydney on 28/9/1945. Melbourne was the next port of call, where she arrived on 1/10/1945.
