The hospital ship Wanganella departed Sydney in August 1945 and headed north to pick up ex-prisoners from various islands in the Dutch East Indies. She called several times at Morotai, Labuan, Kuching and Balikpapan, before returning to Australia in early October, 1945. Wanganella called into Brisbane on 11/10/1945 and arrived in Sydney on 13/10/1945*.

Wanganella left Sydney a week later for a return trip to Labuan, where she picked up more ex-prisoners and medical staff. She departed Labuan on 10/11/1945 and arrived in Sydney on 23/11/1945.
