The main Battalion position was located on the Gemas-Tampin road, near the 61 mile peg. The area was occupied from 12/1/42 until a fierce battle with the Japanese on 15/1/42. A road block made up of concrete cylinders was set up here to halt the enemy advance, following the ambush at Gemencheh Bridge the previous afternoon.

As well as the 2/30 Battalion, the following 8th Division Service Units were involved:

  • 2/15 Field Regiment, 30 Battery

  • 4 Anti-Tank Regiment, a Section of 13 Battery

  • a Party of 8 Div. Engineers, and

  • a Party of 8 Div. Signals.
