After enlistment, the new recruits were posted to various Training Battalions, before joining the 2/30th.

During November, 1940, these recruits gathered at Tamworth showground to become the original members of the 2/30 Battalion A.I.F.

Reinforcements from N.S.W. and other States joined the Battalion later during training in Australia, or were called up as reinforcements in Singapore and Malaya.
