Anzac Day March - Sydney
Departed Thursday
Island 23/12/1941
Arrived Sydney 29/12/1941
A number of 2/30 Battalion members were repatriated from Singapore on board
Zealandia on 25/11/1941.
The ship headed for Darwin where she arrived on 8/12/1941, and the
2/30th men were disembarked.
The 2/40 Battalion were also in Darwin, preparing to return south for
leave, but due to the entry of Japan into the war, it was decided to
send them to Timor instead. Zealandia and Westralia
departed Darwin and headed for Koepang. After disembarking the troops,
Zealandia returned to Darwin on 16/12/1941.
The 2/30th men again boarded Zealandia,
along with nearly 600 civilian evacuees from Darwin, and departed on 20/12/1941 bound for Thursday Island.
Here they transferred to Westralia for the remainder of the trip to Sydney, where they
arrived on 29/12/1941. Zealandia also continued to Sydney,
arriving a couple of days later on 1/1/1942.
