A number of injured soldiers were evacuated from Singapore by Hospital Ship on 10 and 11/2/1942. They headed to Batavia, where they boarded another Hospital Ship for the trip to Colombo.

On arrival in Ceylon, they were transferred to 12 AGH, where they spent their time recovering. They remained there until suitable transport was available to transport them back to Australia.

Wanganella (known as 2/2 Hospital Ship) departed Colombo on Saturday 26/4/1942, called at Fremantle and Melbourne, and arrived in Sydney on 15/5/1942.
