Nominal Roll details

Military Medal (MM)

"During the action at GEMAS on 14 January, 1942, Cpl. Kennedy's Section was attacked by an enemy tank and also subjected to heavy small arms (SA) fire. Although not dug in, Kennedy courageously used a Bren gun with such success as to put out of action one tank's machine gun (MG) equipment and enable his section to return without casualties to the protection of a natural anti tank obstacle.

Later on 23 January, 1942 at SIMPANG RENGAM this NCO's section was attacked by an enemy patrol. He immediately organised a bayonet charge and despite small arms (SA) fire led his Section, causing the enemy to hastily withdraw.

This NCO has displayed exceptional courage and I recommend that he be awarded the Military Medal."
