Circular No. 117
1st October, 1956

Official Organ of 2/30th Bn. A.I.F. Assn

COMMITTEE

Dear Dig,

Stewart Blow was in town recently and stayed with Reg Ellis. Stewart is a successful dairy farmer with a property in the Berry district on the South Coast. He is a busy man with a wide variety of interests, is a director of both the local Dairy Company and the Dairy Farmers, Sydney. Stewart and his wife Ruth have two daughters, Susan and Barbara. We hope to sea Stewart at the next reunion.

Bob Gibbs of Turrawan spent a day at Tamworth recently with Jock Logan and Reg Melbourne of the 2/15th Regt. kept them well entertained. Since February, 1955, Bob has lost count of the floods they have had in their district, each flood bringing its share of worry and extra work. He is hoping for a normal season now to enable him to get back on his feet again. Bob often hears from Ross Madden of Armidale.

We are short of news for the Makan and would appreciate some more news of members.

ANNUAL REUNIONS:

The committee are working hard for the success of the next Annual reunion and we hope that it will be the biggest we have had yet.

Guest of honour will be Paddy Walsh who is coming down from Queensland. Paddy has never attended one of our reunions and hopes to renew acquaintance with all ex-members of the Unit. We are particularly anxious that all your cobbers who have not yet joined the Association hear of this reunion and come to it. You can assist the committee by bringing such cobbers along with you or by filling in the form at the bottom of this Makan and sending it to Ron Maston.

The reunion will now be held at the ex-Imperials Service Club at 5 Hamilton Street, Sydney on 23rd November, commencing at 8.00 p.m. The new situation is as near perfect for our type of reunion as we have been able to find. The hall has plenty of room, comfortable settees around the walls and excellent appointments.

Prior to the reunion many of the lads will be eating their Makan at the "Chows" in Dixon Street. The Eastern Restaurant is the place and if you have not eaten there before, then this should be a pleasant change for you. The meal at the restaurant is entirely informal but has grown so popular over the last few years that we urge you to eat there in the company of your mates.

We hope to introduce an entirely new feature at the next reunion and serve a supper to your liking about 9.30 or 10 p.m.  Joe Geoghegan will be to the fore in the organisation of the supper. Cost of the reunion will remain at 15/- per head. Make every effort to come along. Country and interstate visitors will be provided with a 'shakedown' for the weekend at homes of members.

We remind you once again that you may bring along any ex-8th Div. friend if you desire. We have regular attendances from half a dozen other units in the Division.

Please forward cheques, money orders and postal notes to Reg Ellis, at Boronia Park. All money orders and postal notes to be made payable at the G.P.O., Sydney.

Cheerio,

STAN ARNEIL
