Hon. Secretary: S.F. Arneil, Esq.

2/30TH BATTALION A.I.F. ASSOCIATION,
P.O. Box 56, BROADWAY.

Dear Dig,

I am starting a Unit Marriage Bureau at once with the object of marrying off all you unhappy bachelors immediately. This aimless drifting from pub to pub on a Saturday afternoon with a bob each way on "Red Nose" in the first is a waste of time and effort. I know what I am talking about, Gents; get married to-morrow or sooner if you can.

A little news from here and there-Frank Ryan of "A" Coy is now a Big Shot in London with Gordon and Gotch. He travelled to England last year, with Padre Sexton, and Scottie Anderson of "D" Coy.

You can forget about ever winning the Burma Star-- we are definitely, ineligible for it--this from the "Old Man."

Hopes of obtaining all that lovely subsistence money for POW years are as bright at the moment as a brace of kerosene lamps, without wicks, but the Eight Div, Malaya Council has approached an M.P. with the angle that we should be reimbursed because we sold all of our goods and personal belongings (personally belonging to someone anyway) in order to obtain food. This is logical and true, so we might hear some more of it. We now have two M.P.'s (Members of Parliament, not Provosts} on the side of the 8th Div. and the Old Gentleman is pushing it on the former angle as hard as he can go.

Keith Mulholland and Mick Lovell have recently married and Greg Ducker has a baby daughter. Bill Skene has an addition to his family, also, but it is evidently sexless because to all my enquiries as to whether it is a girl or bay, I have received only vague reports that it is "child."

When you pass through the city always drop into the Saloon Bar of the Tatter Hotel, it is central and respectable, and you will stand a good chance of striking some of the boys, in fact, half a dozen of our lads live there permanently.

I saw "Gentleman George" Ramsay, hair slicked down as usual and looking as debonair as Monsieur Beaucaire, attending a screening of the "Rake's Progress,"

Big Ron McBurney and long McAndrew are now in the Police Force. I saw McBurney at Neilson Park and he told me personally that it was a better job than he had ever dreamed of. His walking pace is now two miles per day and he is continually purring with happiness, like a big Persian cat. His main trouble is trying to keep awake while standing on point duty in George Street. Harry McAndrew, unfortunately broke his arm. He bent down to inspect the number plate of a car, and after two hours, it moved off suddenly, resulting in a heavy fall for him. I say God Bless the Police Force!

Max Pyle and Don Sutherland are doing well in some God forsaken holes in the Bush. Don is in Bowen, Q'land and Max lives out near the blacks somewhere.

The 8th Div. Ball for this year will be held in the Trocadero on the 29th April, I'll give you more details when I get them.

Read the next page well and don't forget to enclose a taw little Postal Notes in your letters to me.    we must have money to pay our expenses.

Cheerio, you Logs,

STAN ARNEIL

Hon. Secretary.
