Circular
16th April, 1946

COMMITTEE

Dear Sir,

The first Annual General Meeting of the Association was held on the 29th March, as advised in the previous Circular, and resulted in a Roll Up of about 80 Members, with numerous apologies from Country and City Members unable to attend. The President, Mr. J.H. Cooper occupied the Chair and delivered his Inaugural Address.

The Treasurer's Report, showing Receipts to date £1,253.10.3., Payments £26.11.8., and Balance on Hand £1226.18.7, was received and adopted, and special mention was made of the handsome Donation of £650 by the Comforts Fund. A letter of appreciation has been sent to that Organisation.

The Constitution was presented and adopted and the appointment of the original Office Bearers mentioned therein was thereby confirmed; and vacancies caused by deaths and resignations were filled. As a result of Mr. C.S. O'Donnell's removal to Brisbane, you will notice that the writer has taken over the position of Hon. Secretary.

The matter of the Bn. Reunion, was dealt with, and it was pointed out that extreme difficulties of catering and accommodation at present had made the fixing of a date impossible. After much discussion it was decided to instruct the Central Executive to complete arrangements as soon as suitable accommodation and catering supplies were available, so you may expect to hear further on the matter in the near future.

The Publication of the Bn. History is well under way, but Mr. A.W. Penfold, who is pushing it along, mentioned that he would still like to receive more topical articles and photos. If you have anything of interest, would you communicate with him? His address :- C/- Bank of New South Wales, Manly.

The Association Badge, has been decided on, and is of very neat design, but, as may be expected, manufacturing difficulties are holding up deliveries. They will be issued as soon as possible.

The Anzac Day March, was discussed at some length, particularly in regard to Dress, Ribbons, etc, and it was finally decided that everyone attending the March should be requested to wear the "Returned from Active Service" (Jew's Harp) Badge and NO Ribbons; and, if lucky enough to have beaten the Clothing Sharks, Hats, Collars and Ties. By these means, we should have uniformity of dress.

I have been in touch with the "Old Man", and he has assured me that, though as Brig. F.G. Galleghan, he is Chief Staff Officer for 8 Div. for the March, he will definitely lead the Battalion on its first march through Sydney. He sends his kindest regards to you all, and hopes to see a really big turn up on the 25th.

Please note the, following arrangements :

Time of Assembly: 0845 hours on 25th April.

The Place as described officially "In the Outfield in Government House Grounds, to the East of the main Roadway". In more explicit terms, I should say: Come down Macquarie Street until you see the Conservatorium standing back from the roadway, Turn in towards it, and take the road leading off to the left, just in front of the Statue; pass the spot reserved for Nursing Sisters, and on your right you will see the Area reserved for the 8th Div, LOOK FOR THE 2/30 Bn. SIGN.

See you on ANZAC DAY.

Yours faithfully,

P.A. SCHOFIELD,

Hon. Secretary,
