Juganji Temple

The ashes of over 1,000 Allied POWs were interred in Juganji Temple prior to the end of the War. In October, 1945 they were transferred to Yokohama.
On the boxes shown in the photo the following labels can be seen:

NX2174 - HALL, Walter Edward (Legs), Pte. - B Company, 10 Platoon was killed accidently (fractured skull) while POW in Kobe Japan. He died of his injuries on 15/8/1943, and was cremated. His ashes were interred in Juganji Temple, Osaka. The urn was transferred to the USAF Mausoleum, Yokohama, and then his ashes were laid to rest in Yokoham Cemetery on 4/12/1945.
