Copy of Citation by Major General C.A. CALLAGHAN, GOC, 8 Division, for the award of an MBE to Capt. Norman Gilmour MACAULEY, for his actions whilst a POW.

The citation reads:

"Capt Macauley was a prisoner of war in Japanese hands from Feb 42 to Aug 45. From Aug 42 to Aug 45 he acted as a Staff Officer and Personal Assistant to the Comd AIF PW in Changi Singapore. He organised the movement of AIF personnel from Changi Camp such as those to Japan and Siam. From Aug 44 to Aug 45 he also assisted in the promulgation of wireless news and in other security matters.	His duites required tact, courage, efficiency and devotion to duty all of which he exhibited in an outstanding manner. He consistently and unselfishly devoted his efforts to the amelioration of the conditions of his fellow prisoners of war.

Capt. Macauley performed the duties of an AIF PW Administrative Staff Officer from 15 Aug 45 to 20 Sep 45 and during this period gave	selfish and outstanding service of great value in the task of relieving Prisoners of War."
