The British flag on display at the Shrine of
Remembrance in Melbourne was originally flown
over the Sultan of Johore’s palace. Captain Ken
Parsons, of 2/3 Motor Ambulance Convoy, removed
it from the palace to prevent it falling
into enemy hands. Captain Parsons, along with
other medical staff, preserved the flag during
their time as Prisoners of War, and only brought
it out on ceremonial occasions, or for the
burial of prisoners.
Between 1942 and 1945 over 100 people signed
the flag, including 6 members of 2/30 Battalion.
The Changi Flag is now on display at the
Shrine of Remembrance. The unveiling ceremony
was held on Friday 11 February 2005.
