Hospital Insurance Scheme Maj. Johnson read the balance sheet of the Officers Hospital Fund. It was suggested that it would be a good opportunity for the Association to bring itself before the men by handling the hospital fund. Several members raised objections to this suggestion on the grounds of possible maladministration beyond our control, of unjustified complaints been levelled at the Association, thus resulting in bad publicity for the Association. The inadvisability of the Association functioning before we are discharged from the army was raised and discussed. It was also pointed out that the men had already expressed their willingness to have an amount for hospital insurance deducted from amenities. It was resolved that it would not be in the best interests of the Association to handle the insurance scheme as outlined. Suggested that the Association take over the present amenities fund and from it pay in a certain sum each month to meet requirements of hospital insurance, and the purchase of foodstuffs for D.I. and S.I. cases. It was decided that during the coming week members contact men of the Battalion and ascertain their views. The Secretary will then prepare a scheme embodying these ideas for submission to the men for approval and to this Central Executive at the next meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 1230 hours to Sunday 22nd October 1944 at 1030 hours.
