2/30 Battalion A.I.F.
Association
Chairman: Lieut.
J. Cooper
Business No business arose from those minutes. On motion by Maj Johnson, seconded by Cpl. Thorburn, it was resolved to call for nominations for a District Representative for the Central North Coast District to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Sergeant Annand. The question of writing a letter of condolence to the next of kin of those men killed in action and those that have died of illness since becoming prisoners of war was discussed. Lt. Col. Galleghan pointed out that the Officers would be writing a letter to the next of kin of the men in their Platoons or companies and that it would not be desirable for this to be duplicated by the Association writing another letter of sympathy. It was then agreed that the Association would not write a letter of sympathy. The question of extending assistance to the next of kin in necessitous cases was then discussed. It was agreed that help would only be extended after full inquiries had been made into the circumstances of each case, otherwise the Association would be imposed upon by "bludgers". In view of this and also that many funds would be available to assist needy cases immediately after the War it was resolved that the Central Executive prepare a list of information required by it regarding the circumstances of the next of kin and that the District Representative or his delegate visit the next of kin in area within three months of receipt of the instruction and forward the information required to the Central executive. Meeting closed at 1230 hrs.
