2/30 Battalion A.I.F. Association
Minutes of a General Meeting held at the Barrack Building, Changi on the 14th April 1943 at 1900 hrs.

COMMITTEE

Chairman: Major N. McG. Johnston
Apologies were received from Lt. Col F.G. Galleghan and Lieut. J. Cooper.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Business
The preliminary draft Constitution was presented to the meeting.

The chairman described to the meeting what had been done by the Central executive at their various meetings held to consider the draft Constitution.

Consideration had been given to all the wishes of the members as expressed in the minutes of the meeting held on 27th January and just read to the meeting.

The Chairman advised the meeting that several copies of the draft Constitution were available for examination at any time and asked that the preliminary draft Constitution as presented be adopted pending presentation of the final draft Constitution after our arrival in Australia.

On a motion by Sergeant Rickwood, seconded by Sergeant Maclean it was resolved that the preliminary draft Constitution, as presented to the meeting and containing all improvements and amendments agreed to at previous meetings of the Central Executive, was as comprehensive as possible in the present circumstances, be adopted pending the presentation of the final draft Constitution in Australia.

Badges
Three designs were submitted to the meeting. The difficulties of making a final selection were pointed out by the chairman. On a motion by W.O. Schofield, seconded by Captain Duffy, it was resolved that in the view of the non-availability of records of registered designs and of expert Jewellers advice that the selection of a badge of membership be left in the hands of the Central Executive for finalisation after their arrival in Australia.

Extracts from the minutes of the Central Executive held on 13th of April were read to the meeting acquainting them with the fact that all members of the Central Executive and the 2/30 Battalion Comforts Fund committee where empowered to collect initial subscriptions. This step was necessary in view of the possible arrival in Australia of small parties of men from this Battalion and of the difficulty of collecting the initial subscriptions.

It was resolved that all members of the 2/30 Battalion agree that it is their duty to the report themselves, in person, on arrival in Sydney at H.Q. of 2/30 Battalion Comforts Fund at Phoenix House, 67 Pitt Street, Sydney in order to personally thank that Association for their efforts on our behalf and also to tender any information concerning other members of the Battalion who may still be abroad.

Meeting closed at 2000 hrs.

C.S. O'Donnell.
Secretary.
