A.I.F. ASSOCIATION REPORT FOR SIX MONTHS - PERIOD ENDED 31/12/56. The short period covered by this report is due to the fact that the last report to the 11th Annual General Meeting, covered an eighteen months period to 30/6/56. Since the last Annual General Meeting the Association has continued to progress both in members and vitality. The following points indicate the trend the Association is taking :-- Eleventh Annual General Meeting: The meeting was held at the Eastern Restaurant at Dixon Street and was preceded unofficially by an informal dinner. Both the dinner and the meeting were most enjoyable functions, the attendance at the former being about forty members and at the latter about sixty. The details of the business of the meeting are contained in the minutes which are attached. Makan: The issue of the Makan has continued, the final Makan for the period being the 119th issued to members.
Committee Meeting: Committee Meetings
have continued to be held on the second Thursday of every month.
Attendance at the three Committee Meetings held to 10th January, 1957,
were as follows : Membership: The Membership of the Association received its biggest boost for years at the last Reunion, when Reg Ellis, working during the full time of the Reunion, enrolled about a dozen new members, transferred six or seven to life membership and received dozens of annual subscriptions, including many who had "lapsed" for several years. Welfare: The Committee, takes an active interest in welfare work and at the Committee Meeting on 10th January, appointed a special Sub-Committee empowered to make allowances on the spot regarding monetary assistance. The Sub-Committee comprises Arch Thorburn, Reg Ellis and Harry Collins. Les Hall has continued to act as Welfare Officer and makes hospital visitations and personal investigations as required. Our Unpaid Staff: We must again express our sincere appreciation to Mrs. Ellis for her work in typing envelopes and distributing the Makan reports. Mrs. Ellis enjoys the task and has performed it for eleven years. It is a continuation of her work for the members during the war years when she worked just as solidly for the Battalion Comforts Fund. ADDENDUM: Paid Staff: The principal member of the paid staff is again our Secretary, Stan Arneil. The payment he receives is not in cash but in the sincere thanks of all of us for a job well done.
