Circular No. 110
1st February, 1956

Official Organ of 2/30th Bn. A.I.F. Assn

COMMITTEE

Dear Dig,

Paddles Clune is doing well on his property at Mitchell Island on the North Coast. We saw his wife and little boy recently during a visit to Sydney. The little boy is the image of his father.

Bill Humphrey of Armidale has been working with Ross Madden for some time now and writes that it is like a tonic to work with such a team mate. Bill is well.

Ashley Pascoe of Belfield has resigned from the Public Service and taken another job more to his liking. Ashley is a sincere follow who takes his responsibilities seriously.

He is interested in people, particularly those who have struck bad luck. Ashley never fails to send along a donation to the Welfare Fund each year.

Darkie Despoges is a plasterer and is living in a Housing Commission Flat at Cootamundra. Darkie is married of course. Digger Preen who was in partnership with Darkie for some time has settled on a property now and is reported to be doing well.

We hear that some months ago Snowy Brown (Lt. A. Coy) and his wife suffered the awful misfortune of losing their little boy in an accident. The lad was a wonderful little chap and the blow was a hard one. All members of the Association join with us in an expression of deep sympathy to Snowy and his wife.

Some months ago the Old man unveiled a war memorial at Morse and whilst there renewed acquaintance with Ross Hann. The weekend was a wet one, so much so that the plane landed at Narrabri instead of Morse but the local boys came to Narrabri with transport and assisted the Old Man to make the weekend even wetter.

Jack Korn of Lismore has settled down to a happily married life, his only regret being that he didn't marry many years ago. He is still running the Railways at Lismore for the State Government and by all accounts is doing a good job. Jack writes that Harley Forrester was recently married and to Harley and his wife go the best wishes of all members.

Jock McLean of Strathfield is as fit as ever and is doing well with his firm.

We heard recently that Tommy Nixon and Bluey Melrose enjoyed painting Bluey's house. Tommy of course helps a lot of people as we know but one only hears of it by accident. Bluey lives 150 yards from the gates of Long Bay gaol so you can imagine that dry humour of Tom in action during the working bee.

Stan Coultas of Stockinbingal has married and the good wishes of all members go to Stan and his wife.

Garry Evans has improved his game of golf to such an extent that he has won a few trophies recently.

Charlie Golledge, Sid Hart and Sam Solway recently sent along their subs, almost in the same mail, but neglected to send along any news. We hope to hear from them again later.

LISMORE REUNION

We regret to tell you that due to unforeseen circumstances the "Old Man" will be unable to attend the Reunion this year and consequently the association will not make an official visit to Lismore. Next year it is hoped that we will attend officially.

However, the Reunion will still be held and any member who can make the trip will be assured of an excellent weekend. We have many friends in the district and they will be there en masse. From letters we have received we can see that hotel accommodation will be unnecessary as many of our chaps up there will take visitors into their homes for the night and show them the district on Sunday.

The plane to the Reunion will leave Mascot Airport at 11.45 a.m. on Saturday, 11th February, and depart from Casino at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday, 12th February.

Subscriptions:

We remind that those who are not yet Life Members that annual subscriptions of 5/- are now due. The subscription does not even pay for the printing and distribution of the Makan but the committee are loathe to raise the fee. If your subscriptions are due we would appreciate 5/- from you now or better still send 10/- for two years' subscriptions.

All members send their best wishes to Ray Sharples and his wife on the birth of a baby son late last year. We received the news from Wally Scott.

Due to a joint December and January MAKAN being issued we overlooked reminding members that the Association would place a wreath on the Cenotaph in memory of Fallen Comrades on the fourteenth anniversary of the Battle of Gemas.

A good roll-up of members assisted in the ceremony and our friends of the 2/15th Field Regiment participated.

Please forward cheques, money orders and postal notes to Reg Ellis at Barons Park. All money orders and postal notes to be made payable at the G.P.O., SYDNEY.

Cheerio,

STAN ARNEIL.
