"WO Walker was a PW in Japanese hands from Feb 42 to Aug 45. He carried out the duties of command of large numbers of Australian PsW of Changi camp, SINGAPORE, during a period of about 12 months, when Officers were not allowed by the Japanese to command troops. In effect, he performed the administrative duties of command usually allotted to Lt-Cols. Under many difficulties, he performed these duties with great zeal, tact, efficiency, conspicuous success and devotion to duty."
