Nominal Roll details

Military Medal (MM)

"*****************NCO showed ******** did so with loss to the enemy and one to his own patrol. Once with only one man with him he shot four enemy snipers who were in trees between himself and our position. Twice after reporting with valuable information he immediately volunteered to go out again to obtain specific information.

At approximately 1600 hrs on 25 January, 1942 it was impossible to locate enemy field guns which were firing on our position. Sgt. Russell went out alone and got so far back that he saw the enemy guns in action and the information he obtained was of incalculable value to my own unit and 2 LOYALS and materially assisted the success of the operations at AYER HITAM.

I recommend that Sgt. Russell be awarded the Military Medal."
