Mentioned in Despatches (MID)

Place: Nui Dat, South Vietnam
Date: 13th November, 1970

"Warrant Officer Ivor Valantine Oscar Rickerby served as a member of the Infantry Corps with the Second Australian Imperial Force from 18th August, 1941 until November 1945. He enlisted in the Australian Regular Army on 22nd October, 1948 and was allotted to the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery. He joined the 4th Field Regiment in June 1968 in the posting of Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant and arrived in South Vietnam with the Regiment in March 1970.

Whilst the 4th Field Regiment was preparing for its tour of duty in South Vietnam, Warrant Officer Rickerby was frequently required to act as Quartermaster in addition to his normal duties. In the three month period immediately prior to the Regiment departing for South Vietnam he was primarily responsible for the closing down and transfer of unit accounts. In carrying out these tasks Warrant Officer Rickerby consistently and willingly worked for many hours beyond those normally required in order to acheive an excellent result.

His professionalism and many years of experience in the performance of his duties has been most apparent since the Regiment arrived in South Vietnam. Warrant Officer Rickerby continues to devote his spare time to the instruction of more inexeperienced members and accepts any task given to him cheerfully. The depth of his knowledge and his efficiency in the performance of his duties have earned him great respect throughout the Regiment.

Warrant Officer Rickerby, by his conduct, effiecency and devotion to duty has set an excellent example to his subordinates and his performance reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the Australian Army.
